Do You Collect Your Thoughts?

Think about the power of writing things down.

Collecting (or writing down) thoughts and ideas is a great way to stay concentrated and to never forget.

I carry a simple notebook with me all the time. When I’m working and I come up with a new idea, even if it’s unrelated to what I’m doing now, I collect it. This way I don’t feel stressed about forgetting things and I get new thoughts out of my mind quickly.

If you’ve ever had a great idea before going to sleep, you know what kind of stress I’m talking about. This happens to me regularly and before I cultivated the habit to store my thoughts, I couldn’t go to sleep for hours. Now I just write it down and sleep like a baby.

You should try this as well. Take a notebook, a portable computer or a PDA with you and use it as your thought bucket. Whatever new occurs to your mind, throw it there and don’t let it clutter your current thoughts. You’ll be amazed by the level of concentration and calmness you’ll be able to achieve.

Such a lovely, minimal sheet of paper. I almost don’t want to clutter it with thoughts.

I have several journals with thoughts like that which I wanted to collect for various reasons. They are like unfinished projects, and they have become a type of clutter themselves. :(
